Estructura y Guía Conceptual
Concepto Central: The Water Cycle

The water cycle is the way water moves around Earth again and again. Water changes form as it travels through the air, across the land, and into rivers, lakes, and oceans.

Sun and Evaporation

  • The Sun warms water in oceans, lakes, and rivers.
  • Evaporation happens when liquid water warms and becomes an invisible gas called water vapor.
  • Water vapor rises into the air.

Clouds and Condensation

  • Higher in the air, water vapor cools.
  • Condensation happens when water vapor cools and forms tiny drops of liquid water.
  • Many tiny drops gather to make clouds.

Precipitation

  • Cloud drops join together and become larger and heavier.
  • Precipitation is water that falls from clouds.
  • It can fall as rain, snow, or hail.

Water Returns

  • Rain or melted snow can flow over land into streams, rivers, lakes, and oceans.
  • Some water soaks into the ground.
  • The Sun warms water again, and the cycle continues.

Preguntas de Reflexión y Repaso:

  1. What is evaporation?
  2. How do tiny water drops form clouds?
  3. After rain falls on land, name one place the water may go.
